Overview

ChatGPT Search Insights is a Chrome extension that helps you view and analyze search data from your ChatGPT conversations. This privacy policy explains how the extension handles your data.

What Data Is Collected

When you click "Refresh & Capture", the extension captures the following from your active ChatGPT conversation:

• Search queries generated by ChatGPT
• Search results (titles, snippets, URLs)
• Citations used in responses
• Detected entities (people, places, organizations, etc.)

If you create an account and sign in, the extension also stores your email address for authentication purposes.

How Data Is Stored

Local Storage (All Users)

All captured conversation data is stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API. This data:

• Is only accessible to you
• Is replaced each time you capture new data
• Is removed when you uninstall the extension

Cloud Storage

If you have not opted out of analytics, conversation data may also be saved to our cloud database (hosted on Supabase) for aggregate research purposes. This data:

• Is used only for aggregate trend analysis
• Is never sold or shared with third parties

You can opt out of cloud data collection at any time in the extension's Settings tab.

Permissions

The extension requests the following permissions:

• activeTab — To interact with the active ChatGPT tab when you click the extension icon
• storage — To save captured data and preferences locally in your browser
• identity — To enable optional Google sign-in via Chrome's secure OAuth flow
• Host access to chatgpt.com — To inject content scripts that capture search metadata from ChatGPT conversations
• Host access to supabase.co — To enable optional authentication and cloud data storage

Third-Party Services

The extension uses Supabase for optional user authentication (Google OAuth and email/password) and cloud data storage. Supabase's privacy policy is available at supabase.com/privacy.

No other third-party analytics, tracking, or advertising services are used.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties. Cloud-stored data is used only for aggregate, anonymized trend analysis.

Your Rights

• Access — View all captured data in the extension popup or Raw JSON tab
• Export — Download your data as JSON at any time
• Opt out — Disable cloud data collection in the Settings tab
• Delete — Uninstall the extension to remove all local data. To request deletion of cloud data, contact us at the email below
• Guest mode — Use the extension without creating an account

Security

• All local data processing happens within your browser
• Cloud data is protected by Supabase row-level security policies
• Authentication uses industry-standard OAuth 2.0 and secure token handling
• The extension source code is open source and can be audited

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
